Aiséirí Progression Programme

The Aiséirí Progression Programme is a specialised education and training programme which supports men and women in secondary treatment in Aiseiri Ceim Eile and in the early years of recovery from addiction to access meaningful education/training, set goals for their careers and to move forward equipped with the confidence and skillset to achieve these goals. Our programme is tailored towards each of our participant’s individual career goals, focusing on identifying a meaningful career path and the development of the necessary skills and attributes to pursue this.

Established in 2014, our project has grown over a 10 year period to now supporting 27 participants on the programme and many more within the community in Waterford city and beyond. In early 2018 we moved from operating within residential centres to opening our community based facility, affectionately known as 'The Mall', located at 18 The Mall, Waterford city. This space acts as a central point in Waterford city for both residents and ex residents of Aiséirí Ceim Eile to link in with supports, access education and training or even to share a coffee with staff and peers.


Funded by the Department of Social Protection, our programme is a Community Employment Drugs Rehabilitation scheme. Participants on the Progression Programme are referred by Aiseiri Ceim Eile to the programme after a minimum of 1 month in Ceim Eile. While a resident in Ceim Eile, the Progression Programme coordinates a holistic daily programme of classes focused on the personal and professional development of each resident.

As an ex resident, The Progression Programme will support each individual to develop a weekly timetable which is focused on their interests and career goals. This can include work placements, support securing part time employment, classes, recovery supports, vocational training and much more.
In 2021 the Aiséirí Progression Programme received national recognition, being awarded the AONTAS star award for social inclusion. In 2022, the programme was selected for this award for the second year running. Along with this national recognition, the programme is supported locally by a variety of funders and stakeholders including WWETB, BTEI, Skillnet Waterford, Waterford Area Partnership as well as local training providers, employers and community based organisations.

Offering paid work opportunities and valuable work experience for our clients, we are deeply committed to the principles of the circular economy, thereby generating both environmental and social impacts. Under the expert guidance of Project Leader Marianne Heaphy, we salvage furniture from civic waste or receive donations that would otherwise go to waste. Through meticulous mending, restoration, and upcycling, we transform these pieces into exquisite, bespoke items of excellent quality, ready for resale.
