Statement of Faith

Aiséirí was founded in 1983 by Sr. Eileen Fahey RSM of the Sisters of Mercy as a Christian response to the suffering caused by addiction. Aiséirí was established on the belief that every person possesses God given dignity and has the capacity for recovery, renewal and transformation.

Our name, Aiséirí, is the Irish word for Resurrection, symbolising new life, hope and the possibility of transformation. It reflects our belief that recovery is possible for all and remains at the heart of our mission. Aiséirí has always understood its name as expressing resurrection, renewal and new beginnings.

Our approach recognises the importance of spiritual wellbeing alongside physical, emotional and social recovery. Since our foundation, prayer, reflection, participation in the celebration of the Holy Mass, access to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and support from the wider Church community have been valued elements of the recovery journey for those who wish to avail of them.

The spiritual ethos described by Sr. Eileen Fahey continues to shape our work today. The principles of being welcoming, relational, therapeutic, spiritual and transformative remain central to how we accompany individuals and families on their journey to recovery. Through these principles we seek to create environments where people experience dignity, compassion, belonging and the opportunity to rebuild their lives

We seek to witness Christ's message of hope, mercy, forgiveness and compassion through practical service to individuals and families affected by addiction. While our mission is inspired by Catholic Christian values, Aiséirí welcomes and supports people of all faiths and none, treating every person with dignity, respect and care.
